Folkemusikk i Vesterled

Å reise i vesterled var det nordmenn gjorde da de dro vestover og bosatte seg på øyene ute i Atlanterhavet. Det ble starten på et kulturelt fellesskap mellom Norge, Færøyene, Island, Shetland og Orknøyene.

Prosjektet folkemusikk i vesterled strekker seg over flere år, og målet er å styrke kunnskapen og de musikalske båndene mellom områdene i vest-Norden og nord-Skottland, og øke engasjement for folkemusikken i disse områdene. Prosjektet består av flere deler:

Reiser og seminar

Gjennom en serie med reiser der barn, unge og deres instruktører møtes på tvers, skal vi lære mer om hverandres musikk, velge ut to låter fra hvert land og jobbe fram arrangement og samspill. Gjennom hele prosjektet skal barn og unge være aktive medspillere i utviklingen av musikken, gjennom å skape vennskap og bli bedre kjent med hverandres kultur og historie.

Utvikling av materiell

Vegar skal så, i samarbeid med de musikerne som er med, ferdigstille arrangement for alle låtene. Musikken skal spilles inn, og notehefte skrives og gjøres klar for trykking. I tillegg til heftet med partitur og alle stemmene, skal det også utarbeides et aktivitetshefte med samspillåter, historier og informasjon om alle områdene som vi har samlet gjennom prosjektet.

Konserter

Høsten 2024 skal arbeidet framføres med urpremiere i Oslo, og videre på turné til alle de andre områdene som er med i prosjektet.

Formidling og videreføring

Etter at selve prosjektet er avsluttet, musikk og hefter er publisert og konsertene gjennomført, vil vi videreføre arbeidet med å formidle materialet og holde seminar og mindre forestillinger tilpasset ulike alderstrinn. Vi håper at kontaktene vi får kan føre til mer musikalsk samarbeid.

Utvikling og produksjon av materiell vil foregå helt til sommeren 2024, og avslutte med konserter høsten 2024. Samtidig starter arbeidet med formidling og videreføring, som vil strekke seg flere år fram i tid.

Folk music in Vesterled

Traveling west «Vesterled» was what the Norwegians did when they went west and settled on the islands out in the Atlantic Ocean. It also settled a cultural bond between Norway, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Shetland and the Orkney Islands.

The project folk music in Vesterled will take several years, and the aim is to strengthen the knowledge and the musical bond between the areas in the west of the Nordic region and northern Scotland, and to increase commitment to folk music in these areas. The project consists of several parts:

Travel and seminars

Through a series of trips where children, young people and their instructors meet across the board, we will learn more about each other's music, select two tunes from each country and work out how to arrange the music and play it together. Throughout the project, children and young people will be active partners in the development of the music, creating friendships and getting to know each other's culture and history better.

Development of material

Vegar will then, in collaboration with the musicians involved, finalize the arrangements for all the tunes. The music will be recorded, and the sheet music written and made ready for printing. In addition to the booklet with the full score, an activity booklet will also be prepared with smaller tunes, stories and information about all the areas that we have collected through the project.

Concerts

In the autumn of 2024, the work will be premiered in Oslo, and will then go on tour.

Dissemination and forwarding

After the project itself has ended, music and booklets have been published and the concerts have been completed, we will continue the work of disseminating the material and hold seminars and smaller performances adapted to different age levels. We hope that the contacts we make can lead to more musical collaboration.

Development and production of material will take place until the summer of 2024, and end with concerts in the autumn of 2024. At the same time, the work on dissemination and continuation will begin, which will extend several years into the future.
